Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has commended the Ekiti State House of Assembly for its outstanding role in the state’s development, describing the lawmakers as “partners in progress.” The Governor made this remark on Wednesday during a special plenary session held at the Fajuyi Pavilion in Ado-Ekiti to mark the Assembly’s second anniversary. The event also featured the signing of six new bills into law and a formal endorsement of the Governor for a second term in office by members of the Assembly.
Governor Oyebanji, in his address, highlighted the importance of the new laws in strengthening governance and enhancing the quality of life for Ekiti residents. The newly signed laws include the Ekiti State Quality of Healthcare Law, 2025; Ekiti State Water Resources, Sanitation and Hygiene Sector Law, 2025; Ekiti State Local Content (2nd Amendment) Law, 2025; Ekiti State Statistical (First Amendment) Law, 2025; Ekiti State Senior Secondary School Board Law, 2025; and the Ekiti State House of Assembly Service Commission Pension and Loans Board (First Amendment) Law, 2025.
The Governor stated that the laws are geared towards improving data-driven planning, education administration, staff welfare, procurement efficiency, access to clean water, and healthcare delivery. He commended the Assembly for its unwavering cooperation and noted that their legislative contributions have been instrumental in moving the administration’s development agenda forward. Governor Oyebanji revealed that with the addition of the six bills, his administration has now signed a total of 30 laws in two years, a record achievement in the state’s legislative history.
While pledging continued collaboration with the legislature, the Governor lauded the lawmakers for their unity and alignment with the government’s vision. He also thanked them for their patience, resilience, and commitment to the progress of their constituents and the entire state.
In his welcome address, the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, expressed gratitude to Governor Oyebanji for his consistent support, guidance, and openness to collaboration. He stated that the partnership between the legislative and executive arms has produced remarkable results, including national recognition for the integration of information and communication technology in governance.
Rt. Hon. Aribasoye outlined some of the Assembly’s achievements, noting the passage of 24 bills and 63 resolutions within two years, almost doubling the legislative output of the previous Assembly over a similar period. He said the laws focused on key areas such as socio-economic transformation, data governance, education, sanitation, and health. The Speaker also announced the digital transformation of the Assembly with the installation of a digital voting system and the launch of a live-streaming platform for plenary sessions and committee hearings.
During the plenary, the lawmakers passed a vote of confidence on the Governor and endorsed him for a second term to continue his administration beyond 2026. The motion for endorsement was moved by Hon. Jacob Adeyemi Awoniyi, representing Moba Constituency 2, who praised Governor Oyebanji’s leadership, citing his impactful policies in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and social welfare as clear evidence of his commitment to the development of the state.
The event was attended by top government functionaries and stakeholders, including the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye; Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro; Head of Service, Dr. (Mrs) Folakemi Olomojobi; Chief of Staff, Mr. Niyi Adebayo; Acting Chief Judge, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye; members of the House of Assembly, members of the State Executive Council, traditional rulers, and constituents from across the state.
The 2nd Anniversary Plenary served as a celebration of legislative accomplishments, executive-legislative synergy, and a renewed commitment to the prosperity of Ekiti State.
