The Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacch Adelabu Adedeji, has categorically stated that he will not be contesting the Oyo State governorship election in 2027 to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde.
Adedeji, who previously served as the Commissioner for Finance in Oyo State from 2011 to 2015, has been widely speculated as one of the top contenders for the position. However, he has dismissed such speculations, asserting that his focus remains firmly on his current role.
Speaking during a recent public appearance, Adedeji addressed the rumors, stating:
“I want to use this opportunity to respond to the many requests and speculations. I, Zacch Adedeji, will not contest for the governorship election in 2027. I know this decision might disappoint some people, but everyone is aware of the immense responsibilities and grace God has bestowed upon me.
“I was Commissioner of Finance 14 years ago, and by God’s grace, I fulfilled my purpose in that capacity. He has already given me that platform to serve the state. All I need from you now are your prayers for strength to finish well in my current role. I do not want to be distracted.”
Adedeji, who was appointed by President Bola Tinubu as the head of the FIRS in September 2023, concluded his remarks by emphasizing his commitment to his present assignment and his determination to stay focused on it.
